Colour and Chemical Changes of Black Locust Wood during Heat Treatment

نویسندگان

چکیده

Black locust is a fast-growing deciduous tree species with multiple industrial purposes due to its valuable traits. However, the heterogeneity of colour distribution between sapwood and heartwood limits application. Thermal modification an environment-friendly technology for improving various wood properties, especially dimensional stability, decay resistance, homogeneity. In this work, black (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) samples were thermally modified at temperatures 160, 180, 210 °C. Extractives main components analysed by wet chemical methods, was measured spectrometry, structural changes Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The obtained results show that darkening wood, unlike other temperate zone, mainly caused in extractives. Their content decreases during thermal treatment, but new chromophores are formed, quinones. Degradation hemicelluloses partial degradation cellulose also contribute changes. At higher temperatures, condensation reactions can occur lignin, leading formation some chromophores. Statistical analysis confirmed temperature be considered very significant factor affecting surface.

Heat-induced Chemical and Color Changes of Extractive-free Black Locust (robinia Pseudoacacia) Wood

To investigate chemical and color changes of the polymeric constituents of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) wood during heat treatment, extractive-free wood flour was conditioned to 30% initial moisture content (MC) and heated for 24 h at 120 °C in either an oxygen or nitrogen atmosphere. The color change was measured using the CIELAB color system. Chemical changes of the wood components wer...

The Effect of Heat Treatment on the Chemical and Color Change of Black Locust (robinia Pseudoacacia) Wood Flour

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of oxygen and moisture content (MC) on the chemical and color changes of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) wood during heat treatment. The wood flour was conditioned to different initial MCs and heated for 24 h at a constant temperature of 120oC in either oxygen or nitrogen atmosphere. The pH values and chromaticity indexes were examined. D...

Strenght and Colour Response of Solid Wood to Heat Treatment

Heat treatment is a method for improving the durability and dimensional stability of wood. The treatment method used in this work is called Thermo Wood and is industrially applied in Finland. In 2004 production was 31146 m. The method involves heating wood in a steam atmosphere where the heat causes chemical changes in the structure of the wood. The present work was done in order to improve the...
